Care For Comic Books

Taking care of your comic books is not really difficult if you follow some simple steps. A comic book rejuvenates the mind and is a good stress buster. Again to repeat, the importance of comics is not just about childhood. You may have a great collection belonging to your childhood days but you can compile the same and have a good collection of comics to gift it to your children. In fact, comic books are loved by all genres. It is so very important to pass on the best to the generations to come and there are many ways you can take good care of your comic books.

If you have ignored your books and comics for a while, choose a sunny day to casually go around the library or look through the case where you have stored the books. If you think you will need to do it in a phase wise manner, so be it. You will need to look at the damage done to your books owing to age, texture, light and other problems. Repairing at home can be a good idea but for comic books damaged owing to leakage or flood problem you will need to restore it with the help of an expert. Get a few things in a place and look at the items you will need to restore or take care of your comic collection.

Firstly, you will need to make time and not hurry up with the session. Go to the local stationery shop and get some clips, tapes, brown paper, glue and binding material. Use a fresh soft cloth to wipe off the dirt and grime. Look for stubborn stains and keep them separately. Once they have been segregated as per their category and method of treatment it will be easy for you to allocate the method of repair. See if the comics have lost color or have thinned down in terms of paper quality. For the same, you will need to bind the same freshly. It is very important to air them or spread them out in your lawn under mild sun. Harsh sunlight especially on old comics can lighten the color more.

Look for any stapling or rubber bands over them which have got worn out due to time. You will need to carefully remove them and hence it is a laborious job. Comics are your best friend but they are delicate to handle. If you do not have a library then it is good to box them in simple cardboard boxes, label them and use a computer file to keep registering new comics. Sometimes wooden boxes also do fine. Make sure to clear the contents of the box whether cardboard or wood of the previous contents so that there is no transfer of rot or grime. It is also fine to keep the comics in bags if you need your comics quite often. But the need to bring them out in the open is essential.

Choose a good place in your study and make sure to not keep them in a basement or damp area. Keep them off from fire risks and danger of floods. Freshly bound books take time to settle down. Let the glue dry out and soothe out the dog ears on the comic pages before your store them back.
